Relevance of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s Thought on Character Education in The Era of Society 5.0
Abstract
This study examines the relevance of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s educational thought on character education in the era of Society 5.0. Society 5.0 emphasizes the integration of advanced technology with human-centered values, which poses significant challenges to moral and character development in education. This research employs a qualitative library research method by analyzing primary sources of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s works, particularly Adab al-‘Alim wa al-Muta‘allim, as well as relevant secondary literature. The findings indicate that KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s thoughts on character education—such as the cultivation of moral integrity, discipline, sincerity, responsibility, respect for teachers, and balance between knowledge and ethics—remain highly relevant in responding to contemporary educational challenges. His emphasis on adab (ethics) as the foundation of knowledge aligns with the need for character-based education to counterbalance the rapid advancement of digital technology in Society 5.0. Therefore, the integration of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s character education values can serve as a conceptual framework for developing holistic and humanistic education in the modern era.
