Abstract

This study examines the concept of al-Akhlak al-Karimah (noble character) based on the thoughts of Shaykh Abd al-Wahhab al-Sya‘roni and Shaykh Muhammad Abd al-Aziz al-Khawli. The research aims to analyze and compare their perspectives on moral ethics within the framework of Islamic teachings, particularly in relation to spiritual development and social conduct. This study employs a qualitative library research method by examining primary sources in the form of classical Islamic texts and scholarly works authored by both figures, as well as relevant secondary literature. The findings indicate that Shaykh al-Sya‘roni emphasizes al-Akhlak al-Karimah as the integration of sharia, tariqa, and haqiqa, highlighting sincerity (ikhlas), humility (tawadhu‘), and obedience to Allah as the foundation of moral behavior. Meanwhile, Shaykh al-Khawli focuses on moral education as a means of purifying the soul (tazkiyat al-nafs) and strengthening social harmony through ethical responsibility and spiritual discipline. Despite differences in emphasis, both scholars share a common view that noble character is the core of Islamic spirituality and an essential element in shaping a balanced individual and society. This study contributes to contemporary Islamic moral discourse by offering a comparative understanding of classical ethical thought relevant to modern moral challenges.
